shenzhen city
Shenzhen is one of only 4 first tier cities in China. Once a quiet farming and fishing community, Shenzhen has transformed itself into a prosperous city of 11 million people. In just 30 years, Shenzhen became one of the wealthiest cities in China. It is the financial centre of South China and home to many prominent high tech companies. With efficient public transport, green spaces and skyscrapers; Shenzhen is one of the most advanced cities in Asia. In recent years, Shenzhen has gained popularity among tourists and business visitors. With its close proximity to Hong Kong, tourists have now started pouring into Shenzhen.

Shenzhen has one of world’s most efficient and convenient transport system with extensive Metro, great bus system and affordable taxis.  The Metro has 3 main train stations with one of them connecting to the Hong Kong MTR.  Taxis are affordable but the drivers don’t speak English. Hence, you need to ask your Hotel to write down the destination in Chinese, or use Translation Apps. All major tourist attractions and Business centres are well connected with the Shenzhen Metro. Similarly, the bus system has services all around the city, and is a great alternative to Metro.

Food in Shenzhen is better than other Chinese cities. Tourists may find it difficult to get their local food in Beijing or Shanghai, but in Shenzhen it’s very easy. Shenzhen has restaurants serving all types of food starting from Thai and Indian, to Italian and American. Coco Park and Dongmen Pedestrian Street are not only famous for shopping, but also for great Restaurants and Sea Food. For Chinese lovers, Shenzhen offers food from all parts of China. The best way to visit Shenzhen is via Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Metro connects the Airport and the Shenzhen metro network. Shenzhen is a Chinese city, and requires a separate Shenzhen Visa for entry. After entering Hong Kong, you need to purchase a 5 day Shenzhen visa either from Hong Kong or at the Shenzhen border. This visa allows you to enter Shenzhen, but not any nearby Chinese city. The Shenzhen visa rules are slightly conflicting and differ amongst nationalities. Check before you visit.  It will take you little more than an hour to reach Shenzhen from Hong Kong Airport by Metro. Hong Kong is a well-connected Airport with all major carriers flying in and out. Cathay Pacific is the National carrier with services to all around the world from Hong Kong. Many tour companies offer combined packages including Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen. It’s a great option for tourists.

Enjoy…..
