Lisbon : A Historic Paradise

Lisbon is the capital of Portugal. Situated in southwest of Europe, this historic and beautiful city is gaining popularity among tourists. The city is famous for its Buildings, fresh sea food and its unique mix of attractions. With colourful old quarters, café line squares and clattering trams; Lisbon is one of the beautiful cities in Europe. Its cosmopolitan culture is depicted by bustling streets and Grand Squares. The buildings and monuments are symbols of Portuguese Art and Architecture. They also tell you about the history of Portuguese sailors and voyagers. Portugal led the way an exploration by sea during the 15th and 16th century. Lisbon, thus celebrates the Age of discovery by Portuguese explorers.

The best way to get around Lisbon is by its famous Trams. These trams take you all around the city and is great way of sightseeing. The Belem Tower is the symbol of the city of Lisbon.  The tower is built on the banks of the Tagus River and it was meant to act as a defense system and a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon. Other attractions include castles, monasteries and museums. The Commerce Square is a popular attraction among tourists. It’s a great place to relax and people watch. The Santa Justa Lift is an elevator connecting the upper and lower towns, it is one of best loved landmarks. The Lisbon Cathedral is the oldest church and a must see for all tourists.

The 25th of April Bridge in Lisbon is one of the world’s longest suspension bridges.  It is a mile and a half long with a statue of Christ watching over Lisbon, from the banks of the Tagus River. Besides, there are some beaches in the outskirts of Lisbon, where you can go after exploring the city. If you are into shopping, there is no better place than Rua Augusta. This bustling shopping street is a popular shopping paradise, especially for visitors. You will find all global brands out here. Watch out for prices here, as it may be slightly expensive as compared to other shopping places.

As Portugal is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the West, it has a wide variety of delicious and fresh Sea Food. Lisbon will give you a great experience of Sea Food. Sea food here is world famous and serves to the tastes of people from all around the world. Salmon is something which you should definitely try here. There are also some places a short ferry ride away from Lisbon having special Sea Food Restaurants. It is, thus a paradise for Sea Food lovers. If you are not into Sea Food, don’t worry. There are a host of Restaurants providing Asian, American and European cuisines as well. Whatever your taste may be, you will find great restaurants for yourself. If possible, try out traditional Portuguese Food as well.

Being a part of Europe, Lisbon is well connected with Rail and Road from other European countries. Spain is just 3 hour drive from Lisbon. In fact, you can reach Madrid in 6 hours by Road. European Railway, by no doubt is the best option. Travelers from other continents will find many Flights to Lisbon. Portugal doesn’t have any famous carrier, so you have to rely on other carriers. Some Airlines which may be considered are United, American Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa, Finnair, Turkish Airlines and Emirates. We would suggest you to club Lisbon with neighboring countries, if possible. It will give you a great experience.
