How to be Safe while Travelling

Travellers in Oxford street.

Travel Safety is one of the most important things for a traveller. Every traveller wants to be safe and sound while travelling. Nobody wants to book themselves for trouble. Whether it’s a New City or Country, you need to be safe. Thus, it is important to know how you can be safe at your destination. Safety may include protection from Crimes, Scams, Diseases and Health Risks. In this Blog, we will share some Tips on How to be safe while travelling. Let’s get started….

Travellers at airport

1.      Blend in Local Culture: Try and mix up with locals and their culture. Also, dress up like locals. This will help you in getting along with them and avoid any unusual situation. Mixing with the locals will also help you in knowing the places that are safe for you. On the other hand, dressing up like locals will make things difficult for scamsters.

2.      Avoid Unsafe Places:  Try and avoid all unsafe places. These may be places ruled by scamsters and criminals, or just unsafe for tourists. Locals, Cab Drivers, Hotel Staff, etc will give you an idea about these places. If you cannot avoid these places, try to go with a trusted local.

3.      Avoid Late Night Excursions: Always avoid going out at Night. No place in the world is safe at Night. Hang out only in those places where you find a lot of Tourists and Locals. If you are visiting a Nightclub or Late-Night Events, make arrangements for your safe journey to the Hotel/Accommodation.

4.      Be Confident: A confident person is less likely to be robbed.  Confidence in your speech and Body language will make you protect yourself from scamsters. Usually scamsters target people who are not looking confident. They target people without purpose. Walk confidently even when you don’t know the way. Fake confidence to be safe.

5.      Emergency Info: Have all Emergency info with you. This may include Home Address, Hotel Address, Phone Numbers, Local Police, etc. share this info with your family back home. Also, share your location regularly. You can do this via SMS or Social Media. These things will help you in getting assistance immediately.

6.      Eat Healthy Food: No one wants to fall sick in a foreign land. Make sure you Eat Healthy food to avoid any illness. Also, don’t take anything to eat or drink from strangers. They may be scamsters looking for opportunities. 7.      Be Fit and Healthy: A healthy and fit body is ready to cope with any mis happenings. Travel only when you are healthy enough. Have a medicine kit with you with basic medicines. Also, avoid places with pollution and less hygiene. A new city has a new environment. Enquire about its Air quality before travelling. We have a dedicated blog on Preventing sickness while travelling which you can read on this link: http://360traveller.blogspot.in/2016/06/how-to-prevent-travel-sickness.html

8.      Locks and Chains: Keep your Bags and Luggage locked or tied with chains. This will protect any theft or[h1] [h2] [h3]  burglary.  Also, make sure that the Bags you are carrying are not easily tear able. Many scamsters just tear open bags with a small knife and rob.

9.      Safety over Money: Always choose safety over money. There are situations where you have to pay more in order to be safe, or to reach your destination safely. If you think that paying more is the safest option, go for it. Many people try and bargain on safety and end up getting into trouble. You can bargain while shopping, but don’t bargain on safety.

10.   Be aware of your surroundings:  Always be aware of your surroundings. People you are travelling with, sitting with or hanging around may end up robbing you off. If you find something suspicious in your personal space, get away from it ASAP. You can also report any suspicious behaviour to the local authorities.

11.   Important Documents: Always keep your important documents safe. You can put them in deep pockets of your Backpack/Luggage. These documents must be placed in such a way that it is hard for someone to find.

12.   Personal Info: Don’t share your Personal and Travel details with strangers. When you are in a foreign land, you don’t know who your well-wisher is. Thus, it’s important to not get carried away and disclose your Personal and Travel info. For example: If you are travelling alone, don’t disclose it to everyone that you are alone. This will help you protect from any stockers and scamsters.
