Nainital is one of the best Hill
Stations in India. It is situated in the state of Uttarakhand in Northern
India, and is 300 kms away from Delhi. Every year thousands of tourists visit
Nainital. Majority of them are Indians from other states. Foreign tourists are
very rare. It is yet to be discovered by Foreign Travellers. It is thus, a
hidden gem in the hills. A few days back, we posted a Blog on Cesky Krumlov, a
small town in Czech Republic. Nainital is also like Cesky Krumlov. In fact,
Nainital is slightly bigger than Cesky Krumlov. Nainital is not only famous
among tourists and backpackers, but its also a great venue for Weddings and
Film shootings. It is a place worth exploring…..
Nainital is situated at a height
of 2084 metres from Sea level. It has some of the most fascinating and
picturesque sights. Places to see in Nainital include Naini Lake, Naina Devi
Temple, Nainital Zoo, Khurpa Taal Falls, Bhimtaal, Governors House, Cave
Gardens, Lovers Point, Snow View, Hanuman Gadhi Temple, Tiffin Top, Kenchi Dham
and Mall Road. Most of these places can be explored by hiring a private taxi.
It will cost you around Rs.2000 or 30 US Dollars to explore it all. Boating at
Naini lake is a must do for all tourists. Also, some of these places can be
visited by walking on the hills. It is a great way of cherishing the Natural
beauty.
Food in Nainital is good. Though
there aren’t any big restaurants or brands, but the local restaurants are good.
Mostly, these restaurants serve Indian, Chinese and Fast Food. Street vendors
are very famous. They serve snacks and beverages, and are located around the
Lake. The restaurants and street vendors serve vegetarian, as well as Non-vegetarian
food items. Food will not be a problem for International tourists.
Shopping is decent here. A few
Brands are present here. Mostly, there are Shops owned by Local People. Hawkers
and Peddlers are present all over the town. The Tibetan Market, Bada Bazaar and
Mall Road are famous for shopping. Speciality include Handicrafts, Candles,
Clothes and Bags. Souvenir shops are also present here. Bargaining is possible
at a few places. Thus, you can find goods at reasonable prices here.
Nainital is a fairly connected
place. Being a Hill Station, it is connected only by Road. The nearest Railway
Station is Kath Godam, which is 34 kms from Nainital. You are required to take
a Bus/Cab from there. The nearest International Airport is Delhi, which is 300
kms away. There are a lot of Bus services from Delhi to Nainital.
