The Austrian city of Salzburg is
situated on the Northern edge of the Alps, close to the border of Germany.
Surrounded by Lakes and Mountains on the Banks of the Salzach River, few cities
can match Salzburg’s Fairy tale setting. Salzburg is a city of Bishops and Music. The
city has a beautiful musical heritage. Salzburg is the hometown of one of the giants
of classical music – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Its stately Homes, Churches and
Hillsides provided the settings for one of the adored musicals – The Sound of
Music. Salzburg has become one of the most famous tourist destinations in
Austria. Tourists now visit Salzburg with Vienna. Austria is the most Alpine
Nation on the Planet, and Salzburg is a great place to experience the same.
Salzburg is a small and beautiful
city. Its architectural setting will force you to explore the city on foot. The
Salzach River glides between two parts of Salzburg – The Old Medieval city on
the left bank, and New 19th century city on the right. Places to visit in Salzburg include Battlements
of Hohensalzburg, Salzburg Cathedral, Salzburg and Panorama Museum, The
Getreidegasse, Old Market Square, Augustiner Abbe, Salzburg Marionette Theatre,
Mirabell Palace, Mirabell Gardens, Hellbrunn Palace, Salzkammergut Resort
Region, Lake Mondsee, Krimml Waterfalls, Town of Bad Gastein. The blend of
Music and Nature makes Salzburg a living opera. It is an exquisite city with
lots to offer.
Food is good in Salzburg. Though
most of the Restaurants and Bars are European, there are some Asian and
American Restaurants also in the city. Café culture is very famous here. Locals
and Tourists usually enjoy Food with Musical Concerts and Opera. As there are
Musical shows all around the year, you will find some place or the other.
Compared to Vienna, it has a much peaceful and quite Food culture. Considering
the flow of tourists, more International Restaurants must be opened in
Salzburg. Nevertheless, Food will not be a problem here. It’s as good as
Vienna.
Shopping is something you can
consider in Salzburg. It is cheaper than Vienna. Most of the famous Brands and
Retailers are present here. There are numerous shops and shopping streets
around the city. There is something for everyone out here. If you are visiting only
Austria, Salzburg is good for shopping. If you have limited time, we would advise you
to explore the city instead of shopping. This is something which applies to almost
all small European cities.
Getting to Salzbrg is a little
different. It doesn’t have any Air connections. Hence, you have to visit by
Rail/Road. Salzburg is a 4-hour drive from Vienna. Surprisingly, Vienna is not
the closest Big International Airport. Munich is just 150 kms from Salzburg,
and possibly the nearest Big International Airport to Salzburg. As Germany is
also a part of EU, we would advise you to land in Munich. If you have Vienna in
your itinerary, you can consider landing in Vienna.
So, pack your Bags and leave for
a Musical Tour of Salzburg……
