Kolkata is the capital of the State of West Bengal in India.  It is a city with traditional soul, colonial architecture, cultural festivals and mouth- watering street food. Kolkata is a loud, and bustling city with Bengali Tradition and Sacred beliefs. It has been in the bucket list of many travellers. After Delhi and Mumbai, Kolkata is the most popular metropolis. The River Hugli flows through the city attracting many pilgrims to worship its sacred waters. The Howrah Bridge is built over the River Hugli and is a familiar site in the city. As Kolkata was the capital of British India, the city has a lot of historic sights depicting ancient traditions. Kolkata is now an important part of tourists visiting India.

Getting around Kolkata is easy. Public Transport includes Metro, City Bus Trams and shared Auto Rickshaws. You can jump on to any of them and move around. Since Kolkata is a large city, walking may not be a great option. Manage your time effectively as you may face traffic jams around the city. Just like Mumbai or Beijing, Kolkata has huge traffic jams. Popular attractions in Kolkata include Howrah Station, Flower Market, Indian Museum, New Market, Home of Mother Teresa, Victoria Memorial, South Park Street Cemetery, Kalighat Temple, Belur Math Temple, Dakshineswar Temple, Terreti Market. These places will give you a glimpse of the Beauty and History of the city.

Food in Kolkata is very good. Bengali food is not only famous among Indians, but also among foreigners. Bengali Fish and Bengali sweets are very famous and must be tried. Street food is very famous as well. It has a street food culture offering Indian and Chinese Cuisine.  Besides sumptuous Bengali and Indian food, Kolkata also has a lot of International Restaurants as well. Shopping in Kolkata is good. As India is one of the cheapest countries, shopping is inexpensive here. Travellers from North America and Europe find it cheap shopping in India. Products of big Indian and International brands are available at attractive prices here. The New Market Area is a great marketplace apart from that there are a host of shopping malls, street markets and shops around the city. Kolkata is thus a good place for shopaholics.
