US Capital City: Washington DC

Washington DC is situated on the East Coast of the United States. The city has an area of just under 70 square miles.  It may be a small capital city, but surely packs a lot in it.  Washington was founded as the Nation’s Capital in 1791. As soon as you land here, you get a sense of the power and History that this Metropolis represents.  The city attracts millions of visitors all around the year. Most of them may be for Work, Business or Politics. Besides them, a large number of tourists are also landing into Washington. Tourists club Washington with their visit to other famous US cities like New York, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando and Buffalo/Niagara. Washington’s close proximity to these cities makes it more attractive to Tourists. Just like any other Cosmopolitan city, Washington is full of multi-cultured people and diverse Traditions. A Long History, Beautiful Buildings, Scenic Monuments and a diverse culture has helped Washington in attracting Tourists from all around the world.

Getting around Washington is easy and convenient. You can jump on to the Public Transport from almost anywhere in the city. Bikes are available for you to go around. But the best way to roam around is the Segway. This small interesting machine takes you around just like a bike. Some places can also be explored on foot. Washington has many Buildings, Memorials, Monuments and Museums to see. Attractions include Navy Memorial,  US Capital Building,  Smithsonian Castle,  Lincoln Memorial,  Madame Tussauds,  International Spy Museum, White House,  Newseum, George Washington’s Home, National Mall,  Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Foggy Bottom, National Cathedral, Smithsonian National Zoo,  Arlington National Cemetery. These famous sights and Buildings may be seen in many Movies, TV shows and Media.

As one of the world’s most International cities, Washington DC has a diverse and multi-cuisine food culture. No single culture defines its menu. A host of American, Latin American, European and Asian cuisine restaurants are present all around the city. Hence, Food is not gonna be a problem here. If you like Music, there are a few places in Georgetown which host Musical concerts with Food. Shopping is decent in Washington DC. Shopping streets and Malls are around the city. Souvenirs of famous Monuments and Buildings are popular among tourists. Shopping cannot be a priority over sightseeing and food. Hence, try and omit it from your itinerary.

Washington DC is a well-connected city. National Railway connects it to other parts of the United States. High speed Trains are a great and convenient option for visitors. The Road network provides easy and convenient connection to the city. As Washington is a 4-5 hour drive from New York, many travellers come from New York to Washington. The Washington Airport is a busy US Airport. All major carriers fly here. United, Delta and American Airlines provide connections to rest of the world from Washington DC. Hence, finding a flight to Washington is not at all a problem.
